چکیده

Triangle meshes are the most popular standard model used to represent polygonal surfaces. Drawing these meshes as a set of independent triangles involves sending a vast amount of information to the graphics system. Taking advantage of the connectivity information between the triangles in a mesh dramatically diminishes the amount of information the graphics system must handle. Multiresolution Triangle Strips (MTS) represent a triangle mesh as a collection of multiresolution triangles strips. These strips are the basis of both the storage and the rendering stage. The coherence between the extraction of two levels of detail is used in the model in order to decrease the visualisation time. © 2004 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Zipper: A compact connectivity data structure for triangle meshes

We propose Zipper, a compact representation of incidence and adjacency for manifold triangle meshes with fixed connectivity. Zipper uses on average only 6 bits per triangle, can be constructed in linear space and time, and supports all standard randomaccess and mesh traversal operators in constant time. Similarly to the previously proposed LR (Laced Ring) approach, the Zipper construction reord...

Efficient Coding of Non-Triangular Mesh Connectivity

We describe an efficient algorithm for coding the connectivity information of general polygon meshes. In contrast to most existing algorithms which are suitable only for triangular meshes, and pay a penalty for treatment of nontriangular faces, this algorithm codes the connectivity information in a direct manner. Our treatment of the special case of triangular meshes is shown to be equivalent t...

Reliable Isotropic Tetrahedral Mesh Generation Based on an Advancing Front Method

In this paper, we propose a robust isotropic tetrahedral mesh generation method. An advancing front method is employed to control local mesh density and to easily preserve the original connectivity of boundary surfaces. Tetrahedra are created by each layer. Instead of preparing a background mesh for mesh spacing control, this information is estimated at the beginning of each layer at each node ...

Triangle Fixer: Edge-based Connectivity Compression

Encoding the connectivity of triangle meshes has recently been the subject of intense study and many representations have been proposed [9, 10, 4, 8, 2, 5]. The sudden interest in this area is fueled by the emerging demand for interactive visualization of 3D data sets in a networked environment (e.g. VRML over the Internet). Since transmission bandwidth across wide-area networks is a scarce res...

SQUEEZE: Fast and Progressive Decompression of Triangle Meshes

An ideal triangle mesh compression technology would simultaneously support the following three objectives: (1) progressive refinements of the received mesh during decompression, (2) nearly optimal compression ratios for both geometry and connectivity, and (3) in-line, real-time decompression algorithms for hardware or software implementations. Because these three objectives impose contradictory...
